OSHA
inspectors recently dropped by Cooper B-Line’s Reno manufacturing
facility for an unannounced inspection. They left lauding the plant
for its exceptional compliance to the agency’s regulations.
The
comprehensive inspection covered all manufacturing areas and all
processes, including office safety. OSHA spent hours reviewing
programs, course contents and training records, in addition to
interviewing 20 employees to ensure written safety programs were
practiced on the shop floor.
The inspector was particularly impressed with the plant’s
commitment to its safety program as demonstrated by the condition of
the plant, the involvement of all employees and the implementation of
Cooper’s OSHME program.
Upon
completing its inspection, OSHA awarded the facility with high marks
on its programs, training records and employee interviews. The plant
achieved 99.5 percent compliance on equipment, plant cleanliness and
forklift/crane operations.
“We’re
extremely pleased with the results of the inspection,” said Bill
Corray, senior vice president of operations at Cooper B-Line.
“B-Line takes great pride in providing a clean, safe working
environment for all of our employees. This has been and will continue
to be a high priority at all of our facilities.”
In
recognition of the high marks, OSHA has recommended that the Reno
manufacturing facility, which manufactures cable tray, strut, pipe
hangers and telecom supports, apply for VPP (Voluntary Protection
Program) status. The B-Line facility would be the first business in
Northern Nevada, and only the second facility in the entire state to
attain this high honor.
